Matamata Swifts AFC

Matamata Swifts AFC Crest & Logo Matamata Swifts AFC was established in 1930, making it one of the oldest football clubs in New Zealand. Based in the small rural town of Matamata (population around 6,000) the club currently competes in the Waikato Region Premier Division, having previously spent sixteen seasons in the lower divisions of the Northern League.

Record keeping in the club's early days was far from good and today no records exist that outline the significance of the swift in the club's name and also on it's crest.

The original club crest was similar to that now used. However, in the year 2000 club Vice President, Dwayne Barlow, updated the logo by adding a red background to its centre and embossing the swift icon to give the crest a much more modern feel.

Also shown, in a ring running around the outside of the crest, is the club's name (albeit without the word 'Swifts').

Thanks to Dwayne Barlow, Vice President at Matamata Swifts AFC, for the above crest and information.
